When deciding to pursue a postgraduate degree you have a lot of factors to weigh up. The largest of these is often the financial investment required – in particular, tuition fees and travel & living expenses – as well as potential lost earnings from either choosing to delay entering or taking time out of full-time employment. You may also have family commitments or other personal circumstances that make leaving home particularly difficult or impossible. You may also not have suitable qualifications for the traditional recruitment route for postgraduate degrees.
The University recognises that for a wide variety of reasons there are many people for whom conventional postgraduate study is not a viable option.
The College of Physical Sciences offers a number of opportunities for flexible learning to open up access to education and training traditionally restricted to on-campus, full-time students.
Flexible learning is the ideal path for an increasing number of graduates in the workplace. Learning can take many forms, from day-release or weekend classes to entirely learning by distance. Distance learning is through the University's virtual learning environment where you can study from anywhere in the world at times suitable for your daily home and work life. Our distance learning programmes are increasingly seeing growth in numbers from not only the international community but also from students resident in the EU and UK (some of whom even live locally to the University).
Our flexible learning programmes are carefully designed to meet the needs of part-time learners with many offering customised routes through the degree to allow for individual circumstances.
