Our four-year Honours degree programmes offer you considerable breadth and flexibility in subject choice. As you progress through your programme of study, you will have ample opportunity to specialise in particular areas. You will be assigned an Adviser of Studies to help you select the options that best match your capabilities and interests. Students of Chemistry and Engineering also have the opportunity to pursue a 5 year degree programme (as an alternative to the 4 year programmes offered by those disciplines) with the same support and flexibility as those pursuing the shorter study programmes.
Teaching consists of lectures, seminars, laboratory work, field visits and study tours. There is an element of personal study, which is designed to reinforce the information you glean from more formal teaching methods. Group work and projects will give you the opportunity to develop personal transferable skills such as team building, communication and time management skills which employers value so much. The mix of teaching methods will help to build confidence and leadership as well as technical competence.
Your understanding of the knowledge gained throughout the programme of study will be gauged by a combination of written examinations and continuous assessment. The latter includes essays, practical reports, poster presentations or group assignments. The combination of assessment methods will depend on the level of the courses and the nature of the subject.
Although your programme of study will be challenging and demand a lot of time and effort, you will still be able to enjoy an active social life, sporting and other recreational activities!
