Risk in Society

Risk In Society

Students will gain a basic knowledge of the science and technology in certain exemplar areas together with a basic introduction to risk perception, risk assessment and the quantification of risk. Example themes to be discussed over the first session will include Nuclear Energy, Financial Investments and GM foods. The overall aim is not to change students’ minds over the rights and wrongs of individual viewpoints but to broaden their awareness of risk and its portrayal in the popular press and every day society, enabling them to take a more balanced view.

Please Note: this course will not run in session 2012/13
