I am delighted to welcome you to our first bulletin of 2012, and the first of this new format. As you may know, we took the decision to move from printed bulletins to this online format and so would welcome your feedback and suggestions as we develop this new way of passing out information to the community. I hope you take the time to read about the work and achievements mentioned below and I look forward to being able to introduce even more over the coming year.
As ever, the bulletin can only be a reflection of articles and content provided and so I would strongly encourage you to share your activities and news with us all by sending articles or updates to Kathy Fowler in time for the next edition.
Not only is this the first online bulletin but it is also the first since I became Head of College. I would, therefore, like to take the opportunity to thank you all for the kind welcome I have received. I have been trying to meet as many staff as possible and to get to see where people work. I have been hugely impressed by what I have seen across all College activities.
There are many examples of outstanding quality and strength. There are also, as many of you will know from the College Forum and the Open Meeting, a number of challenges. Those of you who have been at these meetings will have heard my commitment to make information, particularly on finances, student number and research income, available to the College. Rather than overload the bulletin, the information is available from the College Intranet. I do not expect everyone to be interested but it will be accessible to all. The information and analyses are being used to inform School strategies, which must combine intellectual ambition with financial deliverability.
