Software installation
**Please do not attempt to install Office Communicator yourself**
Please contact the Service Desk - servicedesk@abdn.ac.uk - to request installation of Microsoft Office Communicator. Installation will either be carried out remotely, or we will come to you to carry out installation.
Headsets, web cams and speakerphones
To benefit fully from all the features of Office Communicator, you may need to use a webcam, headset, or speakerphone.
We do not supply or procure headsets, webcams, or speakerphones. For advice on choosing and installing these devices, see our Headsets, webcams and speakerphones page.
Installing Communicator on non-University home PCs/laptops/Macs
Note: Your Office Communicator account must be enabled before you install Communicator on your home PC/laptop or Mac - please send a request to servicedesk@abdn.ac.uk. If you are using Office Communicator on your campus PC, then your account is already enabled and you can go ahead and install.
You can download and install Office Communicator on your home PC/laptop and Messenger on your home Mac from the Software Download Service (restricted access - University login required). All you need is an internet connection. In order to access the Software Download Service from off campus, you must have configured your web browser to use the web proxy server. Installing on Windows Mobile Devices
Communicator Mobile gives you the presence, instant messaging, and voice capabilities of Office Communicator on your mobile device. The following platforms are supported:
- Any Windows Mobile phone running either Windows Mobile 6.0, 6.1 or 6.5.
- Nokia S40 and Motorola Razr V3xx phones capable of running Java applications.
