VOLUNTEER PATIENT PROGRAMME

Volunteer Patient Programme

The Programme

The Volunteer Patients are an integral part of the education and training in the Medical Programme (MBChB).  They assist in providing ‘real life’ learning opportunities where the medical students can gain confidence and competence in a non-threatening environment.

The Volunteer Patient

The Volunteer Patients are members of the public who assist in the Practice and Learning Sessions by being available to be examined by medical students.  Volunteer Patients are sometimes used during Real student examinations.  There is no prior training or experiences necessary to be selected to join the Programme.  We ask that a Volunteer Patient be reliable and any training necessary is provided by us.

What You can expect from us

Training is provided regarding the different types of non-invasive procedures/examinations (for example, the taking of a blood pressure, listening to a patient’s lungs).  Volunteer Patients are sometimes used during student examinations.  If you require travelling expenses, we imburse.  You are provided with coffee, tea and biscuits before each Practice and Learning Session.  During student examinations, you are provided with coffee, tea and biscuits during breaks and a full lunch.  We provide a friendly atmosphere where there are opportunities to meet new people and other volunteers.

Where you will be involved in Teaching
