The Volunteer Patient Programme
Would you like to help train the Doctors of the future?
We are currently recruiting enthusiastic volunteers to give a little of their time to act as ‘Teaching Patients’, to assist Medical Students improve their examination skills. Volunteer Patients are an integral part of the Medical Programme and the Medical Students need the valuable experience of examining as many patients as possible in a non-threatening environment.
Join the Volunteer Patient Programme Team!
Our Volunteer Patients are an integral part of the education and training in the Medical Programme (MBChB). They assist in providing ‘real life’ learning opportunities where the medical students can gain confidence and competence in a non-threatening environment.
What is a Volunteer Patient?
Volunteer Patients are members of the public who assist in the practice and learning sessions by being available to be examined by medical students. Volunteer Patients are sometimes used during real student examinations too. There is no prior training or experiences necessary to be selected to join the Programme, all we ask is that a Volunteer Patient be reliable.
What you can expect from us
Full training is provided regarding the different types of non-invasive procedures/examinations (for example, the taking of a blood pressure, listening to a patient’s lungs).
