IV ADMINISTRATION OF FLUIDS / MEDICATIONS
Content (see Parts 1 & 2)
This session provides the student with background knowledge and practical application (including Best Practice Guidelines, demonstration and the time to practice).
At the end of the session the student will understand & be able to apply, relate and integrate the information and the skills to real life situations and be confident to do the clinical practical skills under supervision - Maintain & administer IV medications/fluids correctly (with comfort and safety for your patient)
PART 1 (2.5 hours)
- Prepare IV medications
- Drug Calculations
- Physician Administration of Drugs Policy
- ARI – NHS Grampian
- Pharmacy Department Lists
- IV Push / Bolus – Administer IV Medications
PART 2 (2.5 hours)
- Gravity – Administer IV fluids
- Volumetric Infusions – Administer IV Medications
- Syringe Pump Infusions – Administer IV Medications
We will not be covering PCAs
