What is Clearing?

Clearing is simply the name given to the last stage of the Admissions cycle, and is your opportunity to find a place at university for September 2009. If instead, you are hoping to apply for 2010, please refer to our website for prospective students. Clearing really refers to undergraduate degree courses, so if you are interested in postgraduate study please look at our postgraduate pages.

Clearing can be a time of confusion and stress. You want to find a degree programme that's right for you but you have to do things quickly. Your parents are telling you to sort things out fast and you're confused! Don't despair, our clearing team are on hand to help.

How do I Apply?

If you've already applied through UCAS, you will automatically be entered into Clearing if you:

  • are not holding any offers;
  • applied to UCAS after 30 June; or
  • have not had your place confirmed at your firm or insurance choice

UCAS will allocate you a six-digit Clearing number which you need to provide to the university of your choice.

If you are interested in one of our courses, please contact us with your Clearing Number or UCAS number to hand and we'll take it from there...

If we offer you a place, you may wish to come to the University to look around, meet the staff and get a feel for the place. You are very welcome to do so, either on an open visit, or you may wish to attend our general Open Day in August.

If you decide to accept a place at Aberdeen, then you simply send us your Clearing Entry Form as confirmation of your acceptance.

What if I haven't even applied yet?

If you are not in the UCAS scheme, you can apply direct to the University. However, please deal with only one University at a time.

At the University of Aberdeen we have a stock of late application forms and if you wish to take up a place with us we can help you through the process. It's remarkably quick and easy, even at this stage of the year, so contact the clearing team for details - by email on clearing@abdn.ac.uk, or see our contacts page
