Welcome!

Letter from Bishop

Dear “Fresher”,

Welcome to the Silver City by the North Sea! Welcome to Aberdeen!

A new phase opens in your life. The world beckons, a world of discovery and of self-discovery, of freedom to set your own goals, pursue your own interests and live by your own chosen values.

Wonderfully challenging, but a little like launching out into the deep!

The Catholic Chaplaincy offers you a welcoming community in welcoming premises. A welcome which recognises your new freedom but offers enduring truths and inspiring values you can choose; a welcome which offers a context in which the process of discovery and self-discovery can issue in a synthesis bringing together personal life-style, study and the richness of faith; a welcome which offers you Christ.

The Catholic Chaplaincy is happy to be right at the heart of the University, just across the street from King.s Lawn and Bishop Elphinstone.s historic King.s College Chapel. 7 High Street, Old Aberdeen, is the address. There you will find fellow-students and members of the lively Catholic Society, a good library of material of Catholic interest, a chapel open for prayer, opportunities for serious exchanges with the Religious Sisters who assist there.

While we await the appointment of a resident priest chaplain, the Bishop himself is acting as chaplain. He is assisted especially by Sr Margaret Pope rscj, while Mr Guillaume Jauffret takes care of the Chaplaincy building itself and is always willing to offer whatever practical help he can.

During term time there is Mass in King.s College Chapel on Sundays at 6.30 pm, followed by supper for those who wish in the Chaplaincy, just across the road. You are most welcome!

May God bless your years with us here in Aberdeen.
