Biography
I have been at the University of Aberdeen since 1984, and am currently Senior Lecturer in French in the School of Language and Literature. I am also the Senior Adviser in the School.
My research interests focus on medieval literature and historiography, particularly Crusade-related texts. I have established inter-disciplinary links with History through my involvement in the Taught MLitt in Medieval Studies and History of Art through my collaboration on the St Albans Psalter web site. I would be keen to supervise postgraduate students working in any of these areas, interdisciplinary or more exclusively French.
I also have a strong interest in language teaching and have published two widely-used undergraduate textbooks on French grammar, French Grammar in Context, 3rd edition (London, Hodder, 2008) and Upgrade Your French, 2nd edition (London, Hodder Arnold, 2007).
My main interest apart from French studies is classical music. I play the piano and clarinet and sing with the University Choral Society.
Teaching Responsibilities
In addition to language teaching at all levels, and first-year literature/culture, I currently teach Level 3 and 4 undergraduate option courses on The Middle Ages in France, History and Structure of the French Language, French Cinema., and contribute to the postgraduate MLitt in Medieval Studies (http://www.abdn.ac.uk/history/medieval/index.shtml).
