Current Research

The focus of Dr Mackillop's current research is Scottish involvement in the East India Company from 1695 to 1813. The chronological time-scale and methods used by Scots after the Union to colonise this area of pristine English imperial control form one aspect of the project. Another seeks to contrast Scots, Welsh and Irish involvement in India. A third focuses on the impact of Indian wealth upon Scotland's domestic economy, politics and society.
