For Contributors
The title has always been interpreted freely, not just as meaning ‘studies on Scottish Gaelic’, but more like ‘studies done in Scotland [and anywhere else!] on any Gaelic topics’, including language, literature, history, education and language planning.
Since volume XXII (2006) it has proved possible to publish a volume each year, and we would like to continue that if we can. The size of the volumes, and their price, vary considerably from issue to issue, depending essentially on the number and length of articles accepted for publication. The deadline for submission has in recent years been 1st September, and if this has to be changed potential authors will be informed. Contributions should preferably be sent by e-mail to the editor (at present c.oboyle@abdn.ac.uk) or in printed form to The School of Language and Literature, Taylor Building, University of Aberdeen, AB24 3UB. The styles and conventions to be observed by contributors are printed on the inside front covers of earlier issues of the journal, and include especially the requirement to use end-notes rather than footnotes. Articles may be written either in Gaelic or in English.
Scottish Gaelic Studies now being a peer-reviewed journal, all articles submitted must be sent to Independent Readers and their reports and directions followed by the editor and the author. Finally-agreed texts are then sent to the printer, and it has usually been possible to issue the volume in mid-November.
