According to the QS-World University Rankings (2009), the University of Aberdeen is rated 129th in the world – level with Georgetown and Ohio State.
In terms of Research Power, the University of Aberdeen is ranked 29th in Britain and third in Scotland.
Based on the nationwide Research Assessment Exercise (2008), the Guardian ranked nine departments and disciplines in the College of Arts and Social Sciences at the University of Aberdeen in the British top 20, including:
- Divinity & Religious Studies - ranked first in Britain;
- French - ranked fifth;
- Anthropology - ranked eleventh;
- History and Sociology - both ranked fourteenth.
Fourteen departments and disciplines were rated in Scotland's top five, including:
- French, History and Divinity & Religious Studies - all ranked first in Scotland;
- Anthropology and Sociology - both ranked second.
