Peace, Reconciliation and Transitional Justice
Project
This new programme for postgraduate funding offers PhD opportunities in Social Sciences, Law, Education and Divinity and Religious Studies, in the area of post-conflict studies, exploring issues of peace, reconciliation and transitional justice. It builds on expertise in the College of Arts and Social Science, where there is already a critical mass of PhD students working on these topics.
Areas of particular interest are:
human rights and human rights law; the theology and ethics of peace, forgiveness and reconciliation; the politics of peace processes and post-conflict political recovery; the role of education in societal healing, equality of opportunity and justice; gender and peacebuilding; transitional justice mechanisms after conflict, such as memory, truth recovery and amnesties; the sociology of peace processes; religion and peacebuilding; victims and perpetrators.
The programme offers special features that are attractive in this growing international field, such as
- Working with acknowledged experts across a diversity of fields
- Opportunities for imaginative and innovative interdisciplinary topics
- Cross-disciplinary supervision
- Well established and well resourced library facilities and holdings
- Opportunities to link with empirical research projects underway in this area
- Opportunities to work with civil society groups in practitioner roles
- Attention to career development, as well as public engagement
