Normativity: Nature, Narrative, Nihilism

Project

This project involves conceptual and historical investigation of the problem of normativity. In the fields of legal theory, philosophical ethics and theological ethics, as well as at their many points of intersection, the abiding question of the nature, sources, knowledge and significance of normative claims and judgments is at the heart of many important contemporary scholarly and critical public debates. The project takes three terms—nature, narrative and nihilism—as rubrics under which to explore the most important and vexing problems and questions related to normativity in our respective fields of inquiry.

Awards

In this inaugural year of the project 2013/14, we invite applications for 4 PhD studentships from high achieving students to join us in pursuing rigorous disciplinary and/or interdisciplinary research into these questions.

Application Process

A normal application for admission to the PhD programme is required and applicants should make explicit note their interest in being considered for a 'Normativity Studentship' in their application materials. Information about application procedures can be found here: http://www.abdn.ac.uk/postgraduate/apply.php

Deadline

All application materials must be received by 1 February 2013.
