CASS Open Funding
Students of high academic merit whose area of study does not fall under the awards offered by the AHRC or the Research Project Award Scheme will be considered for College funding. These awards are made at the discretion of the College Selection Panel, and may cover anything from a proportion of fees to full fees and a maintenance stipend.
Timescale
The College Selection Panel will consider all applicants of a suitable academic calibre who have submitted an application for postgraduate study within the College of Arts and Social Sciences by Friday 6 April 2012.
It is therefore in the interests of all prospective students to apply as early in the year as possible.
How to Apply
In order to be considered for Open Funding, all supporting documentation, e.g. transcripts, references, research proposals, etc., must have been submitted to the Admissions Office by Friday 6 April 2012. The University cannot guarantee that an incomplete application will be considered. Click here for a link to the downloadable postgraduate application form, or apply online through our Admissions website. Please note that there is no separate funding application form.
General notes on Open Funding
Subject to satisfactory progress, the awards for PhD research Students are tenable for up to three years.
Subject to satisfactory progress, the awards for Masters Students are tenable for up to one year.
For both PhD Research Students and Masters Students, where tuition fees are greater than the amount of the award then students are fully responsible for paying the difference in the amount of tuition fees required. For more information about the circumstances under which students are permitted to hold two simultaneous awards from different sources, please see Frequently Asked Questions.
Part-time awards are pro-rata.
All applications will be considered on the basis of academic merit.
