Finding Accommodation
Deciding on a place to live is not easy when you are new to a city. While your primary purpose for coming to Aberdeen is your studies, it is important that you are able live in an environment where you can be comfortable, make friends and feel a sense of community. The University and greater Aberdeen have resources in place to help you set up your "home away from home".
Student Accommodation Office
The Student Accommodation Office deals with applications for the accommodation offered by the university, but not with private accommodation. The Accommodation Office is located in building number 40 on this map.
Aberdeen University Students' Association (AUSA)
Your Students' Association has an online database of private accommodation. This website is updated daily.
Aberdeen Solicitors Property Centre
ASPC is an organization made up of local property solicitors. It is a reliable source for private accommodation in the city and surrounding area. Their website has a search function which allows you to specify your price range, location and amenities. They connect you with either the landlord, or their representative. Visit
www.aspc.co.uk/Search/HomesForLease/CityAndSuburbs.html to start your search.
Gum Tree and similar websites are also useful tools in your accommodation search; they are not, however, vetted by the University. This is a better tool if you are already in Aberdeen, or have a friend here to verify the validity of the information. Do not make any advance payment through this site without first seeking advice from the accommodation office.
If you are hoping to rent private accommodation and cannot find anyone to act as guarantor for your application, the College may be able to arrange this for you. Contact Ms Ann Marie Davison, a.m.davidson@abdn.ac.uk, or Mrs Katrina Allan, katrina.allan@abdn.ac.uk, and we will see how we can help you.
