Careers advice and guidance is available for research staff at University of Aberdeen from the Careers Service. You can make a one-to-one appointment to speak to a Careers Adviser by contacting the Careers Service's reception either in person on the second floor of The Hub or by phone (27) 3601.
The Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers sets out the expectations and responsibilities of researchers, their managers, employers and funders. It aims to increase the attractiveness and sustainability of research careers in the UK and to improve the quantity, quality and impact of research for the benefit of UK society and the economy. The Concordat will ensure today's researchers are encouraged and supported during their career development. By setting out clear expectations for researchers, research managers, research institutions, and funders of research, the Concordat aims to enhance the research workforce and thereby sustain research excellence in the UK.
Vitae is a national organisation for the personal, professional and career development of researchers in higher education institutions and research institutes, and it is supported and funded by the Research Councils UK. The Vitae site offers information and guidance on many aspects of research. The Careers section provides you with information and guidance to think about how you can manage your career. It can help you to think about what you want to do, navigate recruitment processes and manage your career over the long term.

Research & Innovation provides help and advice to University of Aberdeen's researchers to maximise their research income from the funding opportunities available and commercialise the output from their research. R&I is also the first point of contact for business, facilitating access to the University's researchers, services, and technologies, and offering a range of commercial opportunities arising from our research activities. Business Development Officers, who are College specific, provide assistance by promoting funding opportunities, help put together applications for research funding, engage in contract negotiations, and liaise closely with the Commercialisation Team to identify intellectual property opportunities suitable for commercial exploitation. It also provides ResearchResearch.com which is an on-line database of funding opportunities.
Research Financial Services have responsibility for externally-funded research grants, providing detailed project costings at application and ensuring that overhead and cost recovery is maximised, as well as the administration of awarded projects, including submission of income claims.

Centre of Learning & Teaching offers a range of materials and services designed to support staff in their teaching duties. These may vary from elements of direct, one-off engagements through to lengthier projects allowing engagement with more complex issues in learning and teaching.
Public Engagement with Science – help & support for any staff who wish to get involved in public engagement activities.
Training & Documentation Team (TaD) is responsible for the management and delivery of IT training & documentation services within the University of Aberdeen. In support of software and applications at the University, a scheduled programme of courses, workshops and seminars is published each half-session. Courses run from September through to January, and from January through to June. Details of courses offered and how to register on them can be found on their courses page. Unless otherwise indicated, courses offered by the TaD are free to staff and postgraduate research students of the University.
