What are careers subject representatives?
Careers subject representatives act as an interface between the student body and the Careers Service. Tasks include giving feedback to the Careers Service about the types of activities your fellow classmates would like to see offered by the Careers Service, circulating posters within your department advertising subject-related careers activities and opportunities and giving lecture shouts about forthcoming events and opportunities. Careers subject representatives are sought for each school in level 1 and 2 and for each subject in level 3 and 4.
How much time will I need to invest?
This really depends on how involved you would like to be in the role. We do need people who will be reliable and enthusiastic and who are able to attend a small number of events, check emails and join and contribute to a designated Facebook group regularly.
What do I get out of it?
Involvement in any position of responsibility is an excellent addition to any CV as well as giving you a fantastic opportunity to learn some valuable skills to take away with you into employment.
For those of you that undertake the role at Level 3 or above the role has been approved by the STAR award for the bronze level. This means participation in the role will be give you the opportunity to participate in this award. Find out more about STAR .
When it comes to careers information and events for your subject, you will be able to influence what services are offered and will be one of the first to know about new initiatives.
I want to apply, what do I do now?
The closing date for applications has now passed. Applications for 2013/2014 will open in Sept/Oct 2013.
I am a current Careers Representative, what next?
All current representatives should ensure they are a member of the relevant year level Facebook group. This is where important updates will be posted about current activities for representatives including; training, meetings and tasks.
It is important as a Careers Representative for you to be proactive in your role. We therefore welcome ideas you may have to develop your role and build links between the Careers Service and fellow students. If you have any ideas please get in touch via email or the Facebook group.
If you have any questions, as a current representative or prospective applicant please contact Tracey Innes (Senior Careers Adviser). We look forward to hearing from you!
