Introduction

The Scottish M.Sc. in Primary Care is a multi-professional programme delivered in collaboration by several different universities in Scotland. There are 3 compulsory core courses (60 credits) to achieve common learning outcomes, followed by a wide choice of elective courses (another 60 credits) and then a thesis (another 60 credits) on an agreed topic. The degree programme is based in the Centre of Academic Primary Care, within the School of Medicine & Dentistry, University of Aberdeen. Study is available on an individual course basis, with further achievement recognised at Certificate in Primary Care, Diploma in Primary Care, and M Sc in Primary Care levels.

Programme Co-ordinatorDr George Shirriffs

Dr George Shirriffs (Clinical Senior Lecturer) who is the programme co-ordinator, and also a tutor on the core course "Working Together Creatively", will continue to provide educational support for M Sc students throughout their studies and must discuss and approve choices of elective courses. Individual course tutors will provide academic supervision on their own courses. All theses will be supervised by a member of staff from CAPC.

Structure and Content

The full programme is available at the University of Aberdeen where the core consists of 3 courses (each 20 credits) comprising "Working Together Creatively", "Ethics in Practice" and "Evidence Based Practice", all assessed by submission of essays. These courses have their own individual learning outcomes that include the core programme outcomes concerning Self Awareness, Leadfership, Policy & Systems, and Evidence Based Practice.
