Second Half Session Workshops Now Available to Book

Workshops are open to all staff involved in teaching and supporting learning.

To book please go to: http://www.abdn.ac.uk/coursebooking/ and login using your University username and password. Once you have logged in, select CLT – For Staff and complete your booking.
Alternatively, please contact Jen McLean (clt@abdn.ac.uk or (01224 27) 3030) to make a booking.

Most of our workshops take place in the computer training classroom Taylor A1 or in the MacRobert Building at the Old Aberdeen Campus.  Workshops can be held at Foresterhill by arrangement.

Small Group Teaching
Thursday 14th February, 10:00-12:00
The aim of this workshop is to provide participants with a structured route to planning small group teaching.  We will also consider common problems encountered by staff when teaching small groups, and discuss approaches to dealing with these

Presentation Skills (Part 1 of 2)
Tuesday 5th March, 14:00-15:00
Part 1 of this workshop will provide participants with the opportunity to discuss their own approaches to presenting to large audiences; Part 2 will involve giving a short 10 minute presentation on a topic of your choice and receiving feedback from your peers.  ** Please ensure you sign up for both workshops **

Copyright in Learning & Teaching

This workshop will introduce participants to the practicalities of Copyright in learning and teaching. The workshop will consider the practicalities and legal considerations of using third party content in teaching on campus and in eLearning environments

Graduate Attributes

The University of Aberdeen's Graduate Attributes – what are they and how do students ACHIEVE them?  This workshop will:  Explore what graduate attributes are; Showcase the learning and co-curricular resources available via the MyAberdeen ACHIEVE Blackboard site; Discuss embedding Aberdeen Graduate Attributes in course and programme design; Introduce ePortfolio use to record learning and achievements

This workshop will give you a brief introduction to MyAberdeen and an overview of its features to get you started on building your courses.

Using TurnitinUK
Find out about TurnitinUK, an online originality checking and plagiarism avoidance service which compares student assignments with online sources, and learn how to use it as a formative tool for improving students’ academic writing.

Group Work
This workshop will cover how to set up and manage groups in MyAberdeen, and discuss how groups can be used to allow your students to collaborate and communicate with each other.

Managing the Grade Centre
Find out how to manage all your course marks through the Grade Centre.  The use of Smartviews, Grading Schemas, weighting of marks, and providing feedback will be discussed.

Creating Tests and Surveys
Find out how to use tests and surveys and learn about different question types. Guidance on the use of Question Pools, Random Blocks and Question Sets will be provided.  Retrieving tests, marking non-automated elements (short answer questions) and returning marks to students will also be discussed.
