Two Day Course: Learning & Teaching in Higher Education
At the beginning of each half-session, normally in September and January, staff from the Centre for Academic Development, in collaboration with key individuals from across the University, run the university-wide two-day Learning and Teaching in Higher Education course for new academic staff.

This course is compulsory for new probationary lecturing staff and is recommended for new Teaching Fellows. More details can be requested from the Centre (cad@abdn.ac.uk, ext. 3030).
New Lecturers
All new probationary lecturing staff at the University of Aberdeen are required to participate in the two day course outlined above.
Beyond this, the University encourages staff to pursue further professional teaching development activities. The Centre for Learning & Teaching offers workshops and events, as do Colleges or Schools, on a variety of topics relating to learning and teaching. In addition, the University runs a Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education Learning & Teaching. Further information on workshops run by the Centre for Academic Development can be found on the University's Course Booking Website.

New Teaching Fellows
New Teaching Fellows at the University of Aberdeen are encouraged to participate in the Two Day Course outlined above.
The University is keen to encourage any further professional development activities which staff might be interested in pursuing. As such, they are also encouraged to attend workshops or events organised by the Centre for Learning and Teaching or by their own Colleges or Schools, or to participate in the Institution’s Teaching Programme for Postgraduates and Early Career Researchers. New Demonstrators and Tutors
Colleges run induction and orientation sessions for all new demonstrators and tutors and should be contacted directly for any information. Tutor development in the College of Arts & Social Sciences is run on a School basis; both the College of Physical Sciences and Life Sciences & Medicine run their own sessions for Demonstrators.
Demonstrators and Tutors who have completed their initial teaching development sessions and who then wish to further their professional development might consider participating in the University’s accredited Teaching Programme for Postgraduates and Early Career Researchers.
