Petroleum, Energy Economics & Finance

Welcome to our information on the Petroleum, Energy Economics & Finance (PEEF) programme available at The University of Aberdeen.

Until 2011-13, this programme was named International Business, Energy & Petroleum. We have taken the decision to rename the programme this year so that the name provides a more immediate signal of the qualities of our graduates to the outside world. This decision was taken with the full support of graduates and employers. We believe that this change in conjunction with some other small changes we are making in 2012-13, will strengthen the profile of the programme and continue to improve what it offers for potential students and graduates.

This programme was introduced in September 2008, and is generating a great deal of interest world-wide.  The University of Aberdeen has an international reputation in petroleum and energy economics, highlighted by the work of Professor Alexander Kemp OBE on North Sea Oil and Gas, and Professor Joe Swierzbinski on Auction Design.

Th These programmes are taught by experts in the field of energy and petroleum economics, and other internationally recognized specialist staff from Economics, Finance, Accountancy, and Law.

Past students are keeping information on their studies and experiences on this web page: http://www.abdn.ac.uk/ibep/

This web page can give you more information about alumni activities, past dissertations and other related events.

This page also has links to other energy related activities within the Business School, specifically for the Aberdeen Centre for Research in Energy Economics and Finance (ACREEF), which can be found at http://www.abdn.ac.uk/~pec144/acreef/

Entry Requirements

The entry requirements for the IBEP programme are higher than the other taught programmes within the Graduate Business School.

The minimum requirements are normally a good first degree (equivalent to an upper second class Honours degree from a UK University). It is normally expected that the applicant's first degree will have included some quantitative component (exposure to mathematical or statistical techniques). Evidence of English Language Proficiency is also required. The Programme Director will consider applicants with non-standard qualifications, particularly those with relevant and significant work experience.  Please include a full CV and detailed work references when applying with details of your work experience.

If you have a GMAT score, please include that with your application. GMAT may be used as a condition of offer if your application is considered borderline.

If your first language is not English, you will need to satisfy the Graduate Business School and the University that your proficiency in English is sufficient for your studies at the University of Aberdeen. The following qualifications are acceptable as providing evidence of proficiency for Graduate programmes in Business. Tests should be taken within two years of applying to the University of Aberdeen for entry:
