Sales - the forgotten but important factor

The Graduate Business School is delighted to open up its MBA Seminars to alumni, friends and members of the general public.

Organisations invest heavily in creating a value proposition that will generate customer satisfaction, but frequently do not follow through with an effective and efficient sales management programme to deliver the return on investment that is expected. A part of the reason for this is a lack of awareness and training in sales. In an attempt to bring greater as awareness and understanding of the sales process this session brings together a panel of seasoned practitioners and experts to discuss how organisations can do the right things and do these things well.

Panel Details:

Russell Williams - Chair

Russell is Director of the University’s Graduate Business School and Programme Director for its MSc in Marketing Management and MSc in Digital Marketing Leadership. Beyond an academic career, one which has seen him work abroad as well as in the UK and also publish across a wide range of topics, Russell has been a dot.com entrepreneur and also a government mentor to high-growth SMEs.

Karen Reid - Business Development Director - OPEX Group

Karen has over 30 year’s business experience in sales, recruitment and HR Consultancy. Latterly, Karen was Commercial Director of a well-known HR, Recruitment and Training Consultancy in Aberdeen She started her career in in newspaper advertising and was involved in TRN training courses (Thompson Regional Newspapers) which were widely regarded as the best amongst the sales/newspaper industry – this gave her a competitive advantage and she was selected for the Northcliffe Newspaper Group ‘High Potential Scheme’. A qualified coach and facilitator, Karen has helped companies develop their sales forces and is passionate about ensuring that organisations have ‘round pegs in round holes’ - that their people fit the roles they are assigned.

Kevin Coll – Managing Director - Solab

Kevin is the Managing Director of Solab, the IT Services company he formed in 1991 in Aberdeen. He is also the Founder of Onboard Tracker, an Oil & Gas industry workforce planning, training and competence software company. With a wealth of knowledge in the IT Services, software development and oil & gas industries, Kevin’s drive, experience and professionalism coupled with his honest, open and friendly nature has helped him develop a team of fantastic people at Solab and Onboard Tracker. He is very proud to have built the company from a small, Aberdeen focussed technology business to one that now supports the day to day operations of a large client base around the world. His success is founded upon simple principles: listening to clients, understanding their needs and using technology to solve their business challenges.

Peter Waggot - Sales Coach within SME Sector

Peter is an experienced international sales leader and coach with a 25 year track record of strong and successful of business development across the Retail, Automotive, I.T. and Oil & Gas sectors. His experience has enabled him to hone an in-depth knowledge of both why sales skills are vital in today’s business markets and how individuals can understand, develop and adapt sales strategies to achieve success – which he now uses in his work with multiple clients. Peter is a Member of the E.M.C.C. and is part of a steering group working with Universities across Scotland. He holds a BA (Mast) in Business Studies and has a Coaching and Mentoring accreditation through C.I.P.D. and A.o.E.C.
