Devotions to the Virgin Mary, continued.

Hymn, Ave mundi spes, continued.

... dash against him and girdle him with sin. He invokes Christ's love of the mother who bore him; acknowledging that Christ offers both deliverance from worldly things and the salvation of souls, he asks Christ to have mercy on him, a sinner. He asks Christ to take away his sins, to give him hope, faith and love, and to grant him a good end; that, pricked by remorse, he may be one with Christ. He asks that he may be made worthy to receive Christ's body; that Christ's blood may cleanse him of sin inwardly and outwardly; that at his death Christ may send him an angel to set him among the righteous. He asks that if one death is to destroy his body, he may be spared a second; that although his flesh may be corrupted, his spirit may find rest with Christ; that when he arises, he may see Christ and be with him forever.
