Introduction to the hymn, Salva sancta facies (see HE, p 174).

Sa\lutaciones facte in honore faciei domini nostri Ihesu Christi.\

Hymn, Salve sancta facies.

The author invokes Christ's face, imprinted on a snow-white cloth, which Christ gave to St Veronica as a sign of his love (GL, p 214). He salutes this 'mirror of the saints', and asks that through it we may be cleansed of the stain of evil and join the company of the blessed; that through the glorious image of Christ's face, we may be led from our harsh, uncertain, brief life on earth, to see his real face in glory; that we may find in the image help and consolation, that we may not suffer harm ...
