Diversity and ecosystem function of bacterial and archaeal ammonia oxidisers
Analysis of 16S rRNA genes and amoA (ammonia monooxygenase) genes demonstrates high diversity of ammonia oxidisers in soil. We have linked laboratory, microcosm and field studies of ammonia oxidiser diversity and nitrification dynamics to determine the influence of environmental factors on ammonia oxidiser diversity-ecosystem function relationships and to assess the relative importance of bacterial and archaea for soil nitrification.
