Variety and Flexibility

The School offers 13 different BSc degrees, across a broad subject area that includes Plant & Soil Science, Agriculture, Forestry, Marine Biology and Zoology. These degrees can be broad-based, such as Biology, or more specialised, such as Conservation Biology or Wildlife Management. Should your interests take a different turn once you start your studies, there are opportunities to switch degree programmes.

Within all our degree programmes, there is great flexibility in your choice of individual courses. In first and second year, core-biological science courses can be taken alongside a range of other Science and Arts based subjects. Your choice is tailored to your personal interests, and made in discussion with an Advisor of Studies who helps you shape your degree programme. In third and fourth year, courses become more specialised along the lines of your chosen degree, and you will undertake an independent research project as part of your final year.

In second and third year, you can also study abroad through one of Aberdeen's exchange programmes with Universities in the European Union, US, Canada, Hong Kong & Japan.

Prospective students with excellent grades can also take an accelerated honours degree over three years. A combination of level 1 and level 2 courses are taken in their first year, before progressing to level 3 courses in their second year, or students can register for a four year Master of Biology degree, running from year 2 through to year 5.
