Take some of the ‘hilarious’ song titles; ‘Teenage head’, ‘Jizm Junkie’, ‘Can I Get A Witness?’, ‘Schizophrenic Romantic’, ‘Buddy I Sweat’. Comical stuff indeed.
But then take a listen to some of the lyrics and you can see that this is certainly no Billy Connolly we’re dealing with. Here’s a sample from ‘Teenage Head’:
“But teenage girls never get nowhere,
Teenage girls should stay in bed
Teenage girls should not be giving head”
Or how about this corker from ‘Superman’:
“I wanted to eat her p***y but she wouldn’t let me
I was too drunk to f**k her but I just couldn’t get it up
Of all the girls at the party she was the one I wanted
Oh to kiss her lips made me feel so happy
Oh to suck her t**s made me feel like Superman”
But it gets better. Here’s some lyrics from ‘Lawnmower Girl’:
“Lawnmower Girl I like the way you cut grass
Lawnmower Girl I want to play with your juicy ass”
Still not convinced of the side splitting hilarity of this album? Here’s some more lyrics, this time from the song ‘Elvis’:
“I visited Graceland, I put a flower on his grave
They misspelled his middle name, now that’s no mistake
He gave The Colonel half of everything he made
Some said The Colonel couldn’t give a fuck
But without The Colonel he would still be driving truck”
I think I’ll stop there with the lyrics, lest my brain implodes with a humour overload. The vocals are weak, but that’s due to the delivery of them, which is purposely laid back to try and inject some amusement into the songs. The simplistic music is just basic riffs from keyboard and guitar, again simplistic to be part of the whole big joke.
Look, I don’t want to slam the guy too much, as he’s written all his own stuff and is just trying to have a laugh at the end of the day, and he’s not harming anyone, and I’m sure some people will find his stuff decent and be able to have a laugh about it, and I hope he gets some fans of it. It’s just that, to me, it’s just not any good. There are plenty of other bands out there with similar approaches who pull it off (Kunt And The Gang for example) and are many times better than Charles Boyd. I like laugh and a joke, and always try to have a laugh, and my humour isn’t exactly highbrow, but this album is just tedious.
To cut a long story short, this is a poor album that tries and fails badly to be funny and instead painfully drags on and on. It might just be me though, so give it a try and you can download it for free from his website (click here). Hopefully you’ll like it more than I did. Just don’t hold your breath.
