Archaeology is available to study at undergraduate level as a Master of Arts (MA) or Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree programme. Both can be taken as three-year Designated degrees or four-year Honours degrees. The main difference between the MA and BSc programmes lies in the subsidiary subjects taken along with Archaeology. For the BSc, these will be mainly science-based subjects, while MA students will be expected to take subjects from the humanities and social sciences. In addition the department offers a number of Joint Honours degrees with subjects such as Geography, Geology, Chemistry, Anthropology, Philosophy, History , Scandinavian Studies and Celtic.

At postgraduate level, the Department of Archaeology at Aberdeen currently supports research opportunities in a wide range of subject areas culminating in a Masters Degree by Research (MPhil) or a Doctoral Degree (PhD). In 2012, we will also be offering a taught MSc in The Archaeology of the North, a postgraduate qualification currently unique to Aberdeen.
