Introduction

The ANABONOS Project addresses priority 1 of the Sixth Framework Programme entitled ‘Life Sciences, Genomics and Biotechnology for Health’, with a primary focus on priority area ‘Molecular Mechanisms of bone homeostasis’.

The project will result in a greater understanding of the molecular mechanisms that govern bone formation; will identify new molecular targets for the design of anabolic agents and will gain proof-of-concept that molecules identified as potential anabolics can increase bone mass and improve bone structure in vivo.

The ANABONOS consortium brings together leading European Research groups working in the field of bone metabolism together with SME’s to create a group that has the ability to identify and investigate basic mechanisms that regulate bone formation with the ultimate aim of identifying molecules that could act as potential targets for bone anabolic drugs.
