Mission

The mission of the Institute is straightforward. It is to enhance the local, national and international reputation of Aberdeen University in multidisciplinary research, training and consultancy with a clear focus on the coastal zone, broadly defined.

Many disciplines in the University such as Marine Biology, Physical Geography, Coastal Engineering, Geology, Planning, Coastal and Marine Resource Management, GIS and Information Systems, already exist and have considerable strengths. The Institute is designed to promote and to coordinate combinations of any or all of these skills, knowledge and experience.
