6. Staff Development
6.1 Training and identification of training needs
6.1.1 Support services
The University will continue to provide central support for staff wishing to acquire C&IT skills relevant to their learning and teaching responsibilities – either through the existing IT Training Unit, the Centre for Learning and Teaching, the Medi-CAL Unit, or their named and resourced successors.
Training will be provided in all the core applications and facilities required to implement the C&IT strategy, and arrangements will be made to extend this to specialist applications as required.
6.1.2 Staff responsibilities
Staff will be responsible for identifying and developing the skills they require to make appropriate use of C&IT in their teaching.
Examples of general C&IT skills that most members of staff should develop are:
- Effective use of relevant applications software (e.g. word-processing software, spreadsheet software, presentation software and simple database software)
- Effective use of e-mail
- Effective use of appropriate diary management software
- Effective use of course management software (presently WebCT)
The support services (see 6.1.1 above) will provide appropriate training in these core areas.
