3. Learning Resources
3.1 Library resources
The University will continue to expand and develop on-line access to library resources such as:
- Library catalogues
- On-line journals
- E-books
- Searchable databases and reference material
- Digitised materials
The library will explore, with course and programme coordinators, ways of tailoring these resources to particular student requirements.
3.2 Other resources
3.2.1 Commercially available resources
Textbook publishers, and other providers, are beginning to develop a wide range of web-based teaching material, which it may be cost-effective to use. Staff must evaluate the quality, relevance and accessibility of this material before incorporating it into their courses.
3.2.2 Publicly funded resources
Staff will be responsible for identifying and appropriately exploiting such resources as are developed and provided through funded initiatives.
Staff will be assisted and supported in this responsibility by named and resourced units within the University - presently the Centre for Learning and Teaching and the Medi-CAL Unit.
3.2.3 Other web resources
There are many potential teaching resources publicly available on the World Wide Web. However, the quality control of these resources is variable, and cannot always be relied upon.
Specific references to, or use of, web based resources which are outside the direct control of the course coordinator should carry an appropriate warning, and should be reviewed periodically for continuing relevance.
