Turku

Centre:
Primary health care is funded by the municipality and it has been regionalised. The citizens have the possibility of reaching their appointed doctor in three days whenever they wish to do so. In the elderly health care, emphasis has been placed on developing supported home care. The multiprofessional DEP (Description, Evaluation and Placement) groups assess the need of services and institutionalisation of disabled elderly individuals and they implement the placement in cases where staying home is not further possible. Turku City Hospital is part of the Health Centre including medical and geriatric hospital, geriatric assessment unit, hospital at home and out-patient clinic. The most admissions are for elderly patients, while younger patients and those who need intensive care are admitted to the University Hospital. Nursing homes are also regionalised and they are funded by the Health Care. Old people's homes are funded by the Board of Social Welfare. For further information please click on the City of Turku website.
