Economics research at Aberdeen is #3 in Scotland and most improved in UK.
The economics group at Aberdeen is pleased to announce impressive results in the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise (RAE):
- 4* (world-leading): 20%
- 3* (internationally excellent): 45%
- 2* (recognised internationally): 35%

All of the research entered (100%) is rated as being of international quality (2* or better), with almost two-thirds (65%) rated as either world-leading (4*) or internationally excellent (3*).
These ratings give economics a weighted average score of 2.85. On this basis, Economics is tied at fifth place within the University of Aberdeen.
In comparison with other Scottish Universities, economics at Aberdeen is ranked third, behind only Glasgow and Edinburgh.
Amongst all universities in the UK, economics at Aberdeen is ranked 18th (tied with Birkbeck College). Aberdeen has been placed above 8 departments that were placed above it in the 2001 RAE: Birmingham, Brunel, East Anglia, Stirling, St. Andrews, Sussex, Swansea and York. Our overtaking of eight other entries in economics is equalled only by Bristol.
