Look After Yourself

Being a carefree student doesn't mean you don't have to take care of yourself. Here's some suggestions for keeping out of trouble.

One of the first things to do when you arrive is register with a doctor.

Don't be afraid to ask for help - with moving away, making new friends, and the pressures of freshers and other student socials, the balance with your studies can be stressful!

Be sensible about when and where you walk. Behave as you would do at home and don't take lifts from people you don't know.

Stick to the pavements. Wandering in the road with a group of friends is not wise. Drinking really messes with your sense of danger. Those moments when you feel invincible are actually when you're most vulnerable. If you'd rather get the bus, you can catch one every fifteen minutes from the High Street.

Keep your property - and your personal space - protected. An unlocked door is a temptation. Make sure you lock your door as you leave.

Turn off electrical appliances and don't use dodgy plugs.

UK BS standard plugs and international adaptors must be used to prevent overloading and fires. These can be purchased from the Hub shop.

Get home safely. Plan how you're going to get home before you go out. This is not boring, it is sensible. There's a big difference.
