Car parking and traffic
Hillhead Student Village is located on Don Street, which is a residential minor dead end road. Over 2000 students are expected during move in weekend which results in major traffic congestion and you should expect to sit in traffic. Aberdeen Football Club is situated within a mile and there is a good chance that there will be a SPL football match on during this weekend; this also adds to traffic congestion. We work very closely with the Council and Grampian Police to put in traffic measures but are very limited in what can be done.
We would encourage all students where possible to use public transport. First Bus run a No1 and No2 which drop you off on King Street. The No 20 takes you straight into Hillhead Student Village. AUSA also will be running a limited pick up service, check with AUSA website for more information. First Bus run a Park and Ride service from the bridge of Don which drops off on King Street. Check out FirstGroup.com for more details.
If you are going to drive, we encourage you to limit this to 1 car per student. If your parents are also driving, please ask them to park offsite to limit traffic. It is also important to think about the time that you will arrive, generally the site gets very busy in the afternoon.
Parking at Hillhead is limited and is on a first come basis. We ask everyone to be patient as the site will be incredibly busy with other new students and in addition we have construction work taking place which will limit the amount of parking spaces that we can offer.
Instead of bringing all your kitchen items and food with you while travelling it makes sense to meet your flat mates first. You can all sit down and write a list of what you need and what you can share- this will save you a lot of money and storage space! Also think about booking an online shopping delivery after 4pm on Saturday, you will save a heap of time and effort – and you won’t have to sit in traffic again! Remember that there is a shop on site at Hillhead, so you can get that all important pint of milk and other essentials to see you through the night, and there are a number of other shops within easy walking distance.
Student parking permits can be obtained if a car is going to be kept at Hillhead from the Central Building reception desk. There is no parking at Crombie Johnston. Information on car parking charges can be found by visiting clicking here
Parking at Crombie Johnston is very limited - you will be allowed to drop off - but you will not be permitted to park on Campus. There is on street parking and car parks in the surrounding streets that can be utilised.
