Artist impression of Rowett Institute of Nutrition and Health new buildThe new Rowett Institute is a glass-fronted building spread over five floors covering a total of more than 10,000 square metres (107,639 sq ft) and equipped with state-of the-art laboratory facilities and write-up areas. It opened in 2016.

A key aspect of the facility is the specialist Human Nutrition Unit which will enable volunteers to take part in dietary trials and studies in modern and comfortable surroundings, yet provide a facility to undertake scientifically rigorous studies.

The new Institute will retain key elements of the Institute's long history with some of the best-known features of the former Bucksburn site incorporated into the new design:

  • Stained glass windows from the Reid Library
  • Windows from Strathcona House titled ‘Health and Plenty’
  • Nobel prize objects displayed in the atrium
  • Portraits, including those of former directors, which will hang in the seminar room
  • Items ranging from bowls (ashets), to oil paintings, busts, clock and brass plaques
