Professor Geoffrey Robinson currently holds the 1505 Chair of Mathematics at the University of Aberdeen, having come to Aberdeen as a Sixth Century Professor. He spent a year as Director of Research in the College of Physical Sciences at the University of Aberdeen.  He has previously held the Mason Professorship of Mathematics, as well as serving as the Head of School of Mathematics at the University of Birmingham, following a period as Professor of Mathematics and Head of Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at the University of Leicester. He has also been a Reader at The University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology, an Instructor and Assistant Professor of Mathematics at the University of Chicago, and a Full Professor at the University of Florida. He spent two years as a Higher Scientific Officer in the UK Civil Service, having been awarded a D. Phil. and M.Sc. by the University of Oxford, and a First Class Honours Bachelor of Arts Degree by the University of Lancaster (all Mathematics). He has published over 100 papers in Pure Mathematics, mainly in Group Representation Theory, and was awarded the Berwick Prize of the London Mathematical Society in 1989.  He has numerous distinguished co-authors, including the Fields Medallist and Abel Prize Winner John G. Thompson.
