Brian Lockhart graduated in History/Politics from the University of Aberdeen in 1967 and, after holding promoted posts in schools in Edinburgh and Glasgow, was the Headmaster of Robert Gordon's College for eight years before retiring in the summer of 2004. He was an office-bearer of the Head teachers' Association of Scotland, Convenor of the Universities' and Colleges' Applications' Service (UCAS) Scottish Standing Committee, a member of the Higher Still Implementation Group, and Secretary and Chairman of the Headmasters' Conference (HMC) Scottish Division. Since retirement he has become a Trustee of VSA, a Council member of St. Margaret's School for Girls and a Governor of Hutchesons' Grammar School, Glasgow. He is a member and former Vice-Convenor of the Business Committee; Audit Committee; Teaching and Learning Committee, Remuneration Committee; and recently Convenor of Student Affairs Committee. He has recently written his third book "A Town School: A History of the High School of Glasgow". He is a Burgess of Aberdeen and an active Rotarian. His wife, Fiona, was a teacher of modern languages at Mearns Academy.
