Professor Edwards is Head of the Graduate School in the College of Physical Sciences and a Professor of Computing Science.  Professor Edwards’ research focuses on how distributed and intelligent systems technologies can be brought together to deliver new tools and services for users.  He is interested in how aspects of autonomous software agents, the grid and cloud computing can be enhanced through the introduction of semantics and reasoning capabilities, including learning.  He also has a long-standing interest in computational methods for scientific discovery, recently this has led to a number of activities as part of the UK eScience programme, in collaboration with social scientists.
