Mrs Jenny Shirreffs, an Aberdeen graduate, has been a prominent volunteer and contributor to the charitable sector in Aberdeen over many years. Child welfare, disability, medical charities, and the arts in Aberdeen have all benefitted from her sustained and dedicated efforts. Over the years she has remained close to the University, serving on the General Council Business Committee and the Alumnus Association Management Committee among many others. A Commander of the Order of St John and Deputy Lieutenant of the City of Aberdeen, Mrs Shirreffs' voluntary service to the community was recognised with the MBE in 2009.

Jenny was born in Aberdeen and educated at the High School for Girls. She studied Medicine and then Zoology and graduated with a BSc in 1976. She was Lady President of the Union and Chairman of Charities in 1970-71 and worked for Jo Grimond and the Rowntree Trust in the seventies. At present she is a Burgess of the City of Aberdeen, a Commander of the Order of St John, a Deputy Lieutenant of the City of Aberdeen St Machar Rotary Club, a Director of Aberdeen Performing Arts, a Director of NESMS, a Director of ANEDS, President of Bon Accord Ladies ProBus Club, Chairman of Friends of Elphinstone Institute, Vice Chairman of the Aberdeen Committee of St John and involved in many arts and charitable organisations. She is married to a GP and was awarded an MBE in the 2009 New Years Honours.
