Dr. Jan Skakle is a Reader in the College of Physical Sciences (CoPS) and has been on the staff at the University since completing her PhD in 1994. Her research is in the area of materials chemistry & physics and includes much interdisciplinary and commercial research, working in the area of biomedical materials with colleagues in the College of Life Sciences and Medicine, and in novel conducting and magnetic materials with others in CoPS. She has published over 200 peer-reviewed research papers in these areas, as well as being a co-inventor on 6 patent applications and isa co-founder and currently a director of a University of Aberdeen spin out company.
Dr Skakle has served as Head of Physics and has taught and acted as course coordinator at all levels, including course coordination of one of the newSixth Century Courses. In addition, she has been a member of Senate since 2003 and is currently a Senior Adviser of Studies. She is a Chartered Physicist and an Institute of Physics Panel Member, as well as serving on the EPSRC College since 2003.
