LATEST MUSIC PRIZE NEWS.....
Spanish composer, Marc Vitoria Garcia, winner of the latest round of the University of Aberdeen Music Prize will have his commissioned piece performed by the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra on the 16 November, 2012 at the Music Hall, Aberdeen.
The concert will feature violinist Nicola Benedetti and conductor Andrew Litton performing the works of Szymanowsk, Mussorgsky and Prokofiev and will be recorded for broadcast by BBC Radio 3.

WHAT'S THE SCORE
For younger fans of music, the weekend will also see the re-launch of What's the Score. Young people aged 12 – 18 who are fans of music and film are encouraged to sign up for a free weekend project where you will learn how to compose music for film or TV using state of the art technology and professional tuition. ABOUT THE MUSIC PRIZE
In November 2010, the University of Aberdeen, in association with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and BBC Radio 3, launched the fourth worldwide competition for composers.
The competition saw over 300 entries from as far afield as Japan, Russia, Belgium, New Zealand, Italy, France and Spain. At the heart of the activities over the weekend was the judging of the 2011University of Aberdeen Music Prize by distinguished international composer Julian Anderson. After theworkshop sessions and weekend performances, winner Marc Garcia Vitoria was offered a £5,000 commission for a full orchestral piece to be performed by the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra this November and broadcast on BBC Radio 3. The University of Aberdeen Music Prize is one of the most talked-about composition prizes in the world, and by joining forces with the sound festival of new music, Aberdeen is firmly established as a centre for creative excellence.
2009 winner, May Kay Yau,won the competition with her piece Vernarrtheit. May Kay Yau is now making a name for herself with major commissions and performances all over the world.
Will this year's winner go onto join the ranks of Bach, Beethoven and Mozart?

We will not be launching a 5th round of Music Prize in its current format, instead we are developing plans (and funding!) for an exciting advancement of Music Prize (involving film), to be launched next year.
